The Crown, with the Bishop of Bristol and the Dean, is seeking to appoint a Canon Chancellor to Bristol Cathedral.
The successful candidate will play a leading role in a small and very focussed cathedral team in a great city and diocese. The cathedral’s determination to be generous in invitation and serious in engagement has recently prompted a lively commitment to social justice, and a deeper interest in the arts. We welcome more people, more often. Finances are secure and there is an impressive programme for renewing the fabric of the cathedral. The Canon Chancellor will help us sustain a proper focus on faith and on community.
Closing date for applications: 09.30am, on Tuesday 29 May 2018
Candidates for interview will need to arrive in Bristol on the evening of Sunday 10 June. Interviews will be held on Monday 11 June.

Bass Lay Clerkship
From September 2018, a vacancy will arise in the Cathedral Choir for the position of Bass Lay Clerk.
There have been Lay Clerks singing at Bristol Cathedral since its foundation in 1542. Indeed, the names of the first six Lay Clerks are known. The Lay Clerks (two altos, two tenors, two basses) sing six services a week, as well as special services, recitals, concerts, broadcasts, and biennial international tours.
Deadline for applications: Friday 1 June, 2018
For more information, or to return completed application forms, please email the Music Administrator.
From September 2018, vacancies will arise in the Cathedral Choir for an Alto Choral Scholar and a Bass Choral Scholar.
This is open to students of the University of Bristol or the University of the West of England, or those of student age, and usually lasts for three years.
It is an opportunity for young singers to develop their talents, learning from the Lay Clerks, and sing as part of a Cathedral Choir which has enjoyed great success in recent years, including singing live on BBC One on Christmas Day 2016, appearing in part on the TV series The White Princess, cut a brand new Cathedral Choir CD, and regularly broadcasts Choral Evensong live on BBC Radio 3.
