Welcome to new Honorary Canons

Congratulations to Andrew Lucas, Edward Buchan, Revd Alice Kemp, Revd Ed Davis, Revd Si Jones and Revd Debbie Dewes who were installed as Lay and Honorary Canons of Bristol Cathedral yesterday by the Bishop of Swindon.

 A canonry recognises the wider contribution of an individual to the life of the Diocese of Bristol. Honorary Canons contribute to the corporate life and worship of the Cathedral and to promote its mission and service in the Diocese.

Andrew Lucas is Executive Director at Trinity College, Bristol, where he is tasked with leading the business and operational side of the college,its strategic development and the staff. Andrew also engages closely with students as a pastoral group tutor and with some former students as a spiritual companion. He Chair of the Board of Finance at Bristol Diocese, a member of the Bishop's Council and accompanies clergy through ministerial development review.

Edward Buchan serves as Vice Chairman of the Diocesan Board of Finance and a member of the Bishop's Council. He is a Consultant in Corporate Finance at Edmond de Rothschild Security Ltd.

Revd Alice Kemp serves as Disability Advisor to the Diocese of Bristol. Alice spent the first ten years of her working life developing specialist supported living accommodation before becoming a teacher specialising in autism and communication disorders. She has a particular interest in faith for those who have no verbal language and wrote about this for her master’s dissertation. Alice is disabled as well as having two disabled children - her daughter is a disabled actor and part-time wheelchair user, and her 17- year-old son has severe physical and learning disabilities as well as autism and challenging behaviour.

Revd Ed Davies is the Anglican and Coordinating Chaplain at the University of Bristol where he offers pastoral care to students and staff of all faiths and none, and runs various events exploring faith and spirituality. He is particularly interested in providing opportunities for encounter between those of different faiths. Ed is also interfaith adviser for the Diocese.

Revd Si Jones is Team Rector at St Michael's, Bristol and led the Heart of the Community project. He is Area Dean for Kingswood and South Gloucestershire Deanery.

Revd Debbie Dewes is Vicar at St Luke's, Brislington, having previously been Vicar Precentor at Bath Abbey.  Debbie is on Diocesan Synod, the Audit Committee and the Vacancy in See committee.  She trains in liturgy for Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals.  She also runs a theological reflection group for curates and teaches at Trinity College.
