Welcome
This truly remarkable medieval chapel has for hundreds of years been a place of sanctuary in the heart of Bristol. Once the chapel for a hospital and more recently a place where those who governed the city gathered to worship, The Lord Mayor’s Chapel is now in the care of Bristol Cathedral. It remains a place to find peace in a busy city. May you be richly blessed by your visit here.
The Very Reverend Dr Mandy Ford,
Dean of Bristol
About
The Lord Mayor’s Chapel
The Lord Mayor’s Chapel is the only remaining building of the Hospital of Saint Mark. When it was built in about 1230 it was connected to the Abbey of St Augustine, known today as Bristol Cathedral. In 1539 the Chapel was purchased by the organisation known today as Bristol City Council, and since then it has had various uses including as a school and place of worship.
Since June 2023 The Lord Mayor’s Chapel is in the care of Bristol Cathedral. We look forward to welcoming you.
