Bristol Cathedral is seeking an experienced and committed Deputy Head Verger to support the Head Verger in leading the Cathedral’s Verger Team and ensuring the smooth delivery of worship, events, visitor welcome, and day-to-day operations.

This varied and hands-on role sits at the heart of Cathedral life, combining liturgical support, operational leadership, health and safety oversight, event management, building care, safeguarding, and visitor experience. The successful candidate will work closely with clergy, staff, volunteers, contractors, and external partners to help ensure the Cathedral remains a welcoming, safe, and well-managed place of worship and hospitality.

The Deputy Head Verger will deputise for the Head Verger when required, providing leadership to the team and supporting the delivery of major services, concerts, civic occasions, and special events throughout the year.

We are looking for someone with excellent organisational and communication skills, a proactive and flexible approach, and experience of working within a cathedral, church, or similarly complex operational environment.

There is a genuine occupational requirement that the postholder is a communicant member of the Church of England, a Church in communion with the Church of England, or a Church which subscribes to the doctrine of the Holy Trinity.
