InTheBeg2

Bristol Cathedral will once again be transformed into a stunning canvas of light and sound this Christmas as the award-winning artistic collaboration, Luxmuralis, returns with their latest creation, In The Beginning. This captivating new installation is on display from Monday 25 – Friday 29 November and set to enchant audiences of all ages, reimagining the Nativity story through a dazzling display of light and sound, projected onto the Cathedral’s impressive architecture.

The Very Rev’d Dr Mandy Ford, Dean of Bristol, shares her anticipation:

“Christmas should be a time of awe and wonder as we contemplate the mystery of God being born into the world and coming to live among us. Luxmuralis offers us an experience of awe as the Cathedral is filled with light and sound playing around the lofty heights of the building. It is a chance to see Bristol Cathedral in a totally different way.”

Luxmuralis, known for their previous sell-out successes Force of Nature (2023) and Space Voyager (2022), is back with a festive experience like no other. In The Beginning promises to take visitors on an uplifting journey, unifying traditional Christmas themes with cutting-edge artistry for a truly immersive experience.

Artistic Director Peter Walker adds:

“We are delighted to return to the Cathedral and present this new artwork for Bristol for this special season. The Bristol audience is fantastic, and the city comes alive during this time. We look forward to working with the Cathedral team again and seeing individuals and families return to the building to enjoy this uplifting light show and beautiful music.”

With bespoke music composed and produced by David Harper, In The Beginning will fill the interior of Bristol Cathedral with evocative soundscapes, perfectly synchronised with the vibrant light projections.

Luxmuralis installations have been enjoyed by audiences across the UK and internationally, with recent displays at iconic locations such as The Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, Chatsworth House, and many Cathedrals across the UK and abroad. Known for their immersive fine art installations, Luxmuralis’ innovative work is described by audiences as ‘evocative and powerful’. Their work combines contemporary media with the fine art tradition, often referred to as the ‘stained glass windows of our time,’ as they explore the dialogue between heritage and modernity.
