Join us for this year's High Sheriff's Concert - a real highlight in the city's civic and musical calendar.
This year’s concert has a flavour of the sea reflecting the High Sheriff’s family history both in the UK and in Norway. The first half will showcase the world premiere of a specially commissioned piece Towards the New World - composed by David Ogden, who will also conduct on the evening. The piece has been created in response to Dvorak's From the new world, which will also be performed in this half of the evening. In the second half, the programme begins with ‘Out towards the Sea’, a much loved piece in Norway composed by Edvard Braein. The Hebrides Overture then precedes the exquisite and intense Agnus Dei, to be sung by the Exultate singers. The finale is a medley from Les Miserables for orchestra and combined choral groups will showcase the depth of talent and creative joy which Bristol's young people have in abundance.
Like its predecessors, the Concert is being organised to raise money for the High Sheriff’s Fund and Bristol Cathedral Trust. The High Sheriff’s Fund supports Bristol Youth and Community Action (BYCA), which provides holiday activities for young people from less-advantaged backgrounds in Bristol. Bristol Cathedral Trust is the charitable arm of Bristol Cathedral and seeks funds to maintain the Cathedral Fabric and to strengthen its vital work and historic role in the city and diocese.
