Scrutinising Affordability and Social Sustainability in Bristol

A general perception is that highly priced homes are embedded in areas that are associated with cohesive and convivial communities. However, recent research suggests that successful neighbourhoods are those that foster social interactions towards creating sustainable communities.

This talk will examine the extent to which this hypothesis applies to Bristolian neighbourhoods to ascertain whether property prices accurately reflect quantifiable attributes associated with sustainable communities.

About the speaker

Dr Richard Timmerman has worked as a lecturer in Geographic Information Systems at the University of Bristol since 2020, where his research interests relate to primarily to quantitatively testing planning theories with spatial modelling. Prior to this, he worked as a research fellow at University College London (UCL) and contributed to the Housing Sprint project coordinated by the SaÏd Business School, University of Oxford. Prior to his academic career, Richard has worked as an analyst in the public sector where he contributed to reports concerning the loss of family housing homes, planning of the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games, and its Legacy towards developing sustainable communities.
