Advent Study Day

  • December 2, 2023 @ 09:30 - 15:00
  • Bristol Cathedral  - College Green, Bristol

Our Advent theme this year is ‘hospitality’. In exploring this, we will be running an Advent Study Day instead of our usual Advent Study Groups focussing on different kinds of hospitality portrayed in four Old Testament stories. As we reflect on these accounts, we will consider how they might inform our Cathedral values, to be Open, Generous, Creative and Brave, in all that we are and we do.

During the course of the day, we will look at the following:

10.00am God’s hospitality in Creation

11.00am Lot’s hospitality to strangers

1.00pm Naomi, Ruth, and Boaz: hospitality to those in need

2.00pm Elijah: receiving hospitality, divine and human

2.55pm Closing prayer to finish at 3.00pm

Each exploration of the Old Testament story will follow the pattern of a reading from Scripture, a brief time for personal reflection, commentary by one of the clergy, and discussion followed by a brief plenary.

You are welcome to join us for coffee from 9.30am onwards for a 10.00am start in the Chapter House.

Drinks will be available throughout the day and there will be a lunch break between 12noon and 1.00pm. Please bring your own lunch.
