Grand Iftar at Bristol Cathedral

Bristol Cathedral, Muslims4Bristol and Bridges for Communities are delighted to be working together to bring a Grand Iftar to Bristol City Centre for the third year in a row. On Thursday, 13th March, from 5.00pm, Bristol Cathedral will open its doors to welcome people from across the city to come together and share a meal at this special multi-faith event.

Bishop of Bristol announces retirement

The Rt Revd Vivienne Faull, by kind permission of the King, will retire as Bishop of Bristol on 1 September 2025. The Archbishop of York granted Bishop Viv permission to remain in office after her 70th birthday in May, to ordain new Deacons and Priests in the summer.

Bristol Cathedral to Host Memorial Service for Paul Stephenson

Paul Stephenson OBE (6 May 1937 – 2 November 2024) was a well-known civil rights campaigner and activist. He played a meaningful role in the 1963 Bristol Bus Boycott and made significant contributions to community relations and the fight for racial equality in Coventry and London. He will be remembered as a man of courage, principle, and determination, who made friends wherever he went, not only in politics but also in the worlds of music and sport. Paul returned to Bristol in 1992, where he was instrumental in establishing the Bristol Black Archives Partnership and was honoured with the Freedom of the City in 2007.

The funding awarded from The Julia Rausing Trust, will kick-start a transformational project which will drastically improve the way visitors and the community can enjoy Bristol Cathedral without experiencing physical barriers to accessibility.

New memorial to dedicated to John Isaac to be unveiled 

A new memorial dedicated to John Isaac is being unveiled at Bristol Cathedral next week. John Isaac was born into chattel slavery on a plantation owned by Thomas Daniel (1762-1854). There are numerous monuments to Thomas Daniel and his family in Bristol Cathedral but this new memorial is the first dedicated to the people they enslaved.
