Tuesday Lunchtime Recitals are offered at 1.15pm nearly every Tuesday, lasting approximately 45 minutes.

Preludes Music is the educational arm of charity and professional orchestra, the Bristol Ensemble. With around 140 concerts and events this year, reaching nearly 50,000 people, the Ensemble is one of the country’s busiest and most versatile chamber orchestras.

Celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, Preludes Music provides high-quality music education and opportunities for children living in areas of need. Many of the children supported live in low-income households with few opportunities beyond what they can access through school. Around one in four have special educational needs, disabilities or mental health issues. More than 80% live in areas of economic deprivation.

By partnering with schools Preludes reaches all children, including those who cannot engage outside of school, who can be the most vulnerable. Preludes tutors are approachable, fun, talented and trained to support a wide range of children and needs.

This year, over 4,000 children will benefit from Preludes, more than ever before. More than half will participate weekly throughout the school year. Activities include whole class lessons, choirs, after school music clubs, individual and small group instrument lessons, holiday clubs, workshops and bespoke projects and performances with professional musicians for and by the children – either in their schools and communities or in prestigious cultural venues.

Children benefit from the quality, frequency, fun, and accessibility of Preludes Music. It enriches their lives and broadens their horizons. They develop confidence and a range of musical and transferable skills. Family engagement is encouraged via projects and performances that bring music to communities that often feel excluded from the arts.

“Children feel proud, seen and heard when making music. It boosts their confidence and ability to learn and retain. It’s a transformative program, for children and leaders alike.” Teacher

“The learning and rapid progress the children make is phenomenal. It is the most inclusive practice I have ever seen.” Headteacher”
