Sing with us
Deputy Singer
A unique chance to contribute to our musical tradition, create memorable performances, and develop as a choral artist within our esteemed Cathedral choir.
Bristol Cathedral is looking to recruit Deputy Singers.
The Lay Clerks and Choral Scholars form a vital part of the Cathedral’s highly acclaimed and respected choir, which has been in existence since at least 1542. The choir has recently toured Sweden and performed live on BBC Radio 3, and enjoys a busy schedule, performing music from all periods of history and in a wide range of styles.
We are looking for singers to promote and sustain the choral tradition and musical life of the Cathedral by deputising for alto, tenor, or bass singers in the Cathedral Choir as required.
If you have experience and a love of liturgical choral singing and are a gifted singer with good sight-reading skills, we’d be very pleased to hear from you.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Showcase a high level of vocal and sight-reading abilities.
- Perform and rehearse alongside our professional Lay Clerks.
- Possess a strong musical background with choral singing experience.
- Ability to work well in a team.
- Availability for rehearsals and services.
Additional Notes:
- Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Applicants who meet the required standard will be invited to attend an audition with Mark Lee, Master of the Choristers & Organist, which will include two contrasting prepared songs, vocal exercises to determine range and timbre, and two items of sight reading, one from the 20th or 21st century.
If you would like an informal conversation with the Master of the Choristers & Organist, Mark Lee, please arrange this by emailing [email protected]
