Keith Tempest worked as a freelance cellist after finishing his studies at the Royal Northern College of Music. During his early years he performed recitals up and down the country with the late Mary Gilmartin, as a member of the London Flute Trio, and also the Ibert and Damase Trios. He has worked with the Bournemouth Symphony and Welsh National Opera orchestras, was principal cellist for the Emerald Ensemble and a number of other chamber music groups. He premiered the cello concerto by Robert Ellie. Keith has performed for many British Music festivals and Music societies but is most known for his work as the cellist in the Bath’s Pump Room Trio, a position he has held for 30 years. Along side his playing career he teaches at Bath Spa University.
Barbara Murray studied at Royal College of Music,London, as a solo pianist and as an accompanist. She gained the G.R.S.M. and A.R.C.M.(in performing), and went on to both teaching and playing. Barbara taught piano at St.Paul's Girls School, London, and then became the accompanist at the Yehudi Menuhin School for 15 years,following that with the Head of Accompaniment post at Wells Cathedral School,in Somerset, which she held for 20 years. She have also examined for the Associated Board, worked as an accompanist for the Paul Tortelier Cello Competition, was orchestral pianist for the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, and audition pianist for the Philharmonia Orchestra,also the National Youth Orchestra and is very experienced in coaching small ensembles.
Admission is free and all are welcome. A retiring collection will be taken, with all proceeds helping to fund music at the Cathedral.
