Add a little music to your lunchtime with our weekly recital series, showcasing classical music from around the world.
This week, we welcome Chris Gibbons and Sandie Middleton for a performance of music for clarinet and piano.
Chris Gibbons gained an MMus in clarinet performance at the Royal Northern College of Music under Nicolas Cox and Lynsey Marsh. Previously, he studied at Cardiff University, where he enjoyed a wide range of performance opportunities including regular concerts with the university symphony orchestra and contemporary music group. An active chamber musician, Chris also plays in and around Manchester as part of the Bilancia wind quintet. He have performed with the RNCM concert orchestra and symphony orchestra.
Sandie Middleton is a pianist and accompanist with experience in vocal, instrumental and choral accompaniment and repetiteurship. In autumn 2015 she completed a three-month placement in Florence, Italy, accompanying vocal and clarinet lessons and providing tuition in English pronunciation for singers at the Luigi Cherubini Conservatorio di Musica. She gained an MA in Piano Accompaniment at Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama under the tuition of Zoe Smith, Richard McMahon and Simon Lepper. At RWCMD Sandie performed in the Chamber Music Weekends, Piano Profile Series, RWCMD Copland Ensemble, 2015 Orchestral and Choral Conductor’s Recitals, and many song projects including "Warlock in Wales", a song recital prestigiously performed for the Peter Warlock Society. She performs with French horn player Michael Gibbs. Experience as a repetiteur includes the 2015 RWCMD Undergraduate Opera Scenes, Mozart’s Magic Flute with RWCMD, Opera ’Ddraig, and Winterbourne Opera. Sandie has accompanied a variety of choirs, including Constanza Ladies Choir, Cardiff University Symphony Chorus, and the RWCMD Chorus. Sandie gained a Bachelor of Music at Cardiff University, where she won the Elizabeth Griffiths Prize for her contribution to music making. Sandie has experience working with professional and amateur musicians of all ages, and is available to accompany singers and instrumentalists, choirs and opera groups for rehearsals, concerts, competitions and grade exams.
Admission is free and all are welcome. A retiring collection will be taken, with all proceeds helping to fund music at the Cathedral.
