KEITH TEMPEST worked as a freelance ‘cellist after finishing his studies at the Royal Northern College of Music. During his early years he performed recitals up and down the country with the late Mary Gilmartin, as a member of the London Flute Trio, and also the Ibert and Damase Trios.
He has worked with the Bournemouth Symphony and Welsh National Opera orchestras, was principal ‘cellist for the Emerald Ensemble and a number of other chamber music groups. He premiered the ‘cello concerto by Robert Ellie.
Keith has performed for many British Music festivals and Music societies but is most known for his work as the ‘cellist in the Bath’s Pump Room Trio, a position he has held for 30 years. Alongside his playing career he teaches at Bath Spa University.
His work also includes recitals playing Baroque ‘cello and the Viola da Gamba.
BARBARA MURRAY studied piano at the Royal College of Music in London. She was a professor of piano at St Paul’s School for girls, examiner for the ABRSM and coach-accompanist at the Yehudi Menuhin School. Barbara then became Head of Piano Accompaniment at Wells Cathedral School, where she stayed 20 years, and she still works as an independent coach/accompanist, teacher and mentor to many up and coming young students.
Playing chamber music has always held a special place in her busy professional life.
Admission is free and all are welcome. A retiring collection will be taken, with all proceeds helping to fund music at the Cathedral.
