High Altar

The high altar stands in the grand setting of the choir, with its dramatic stone reredos, designed by J.L. Pearson in 1907.  The altar itself is the focal point of our Christian worship – it is here that we celebrate the Eucharist (or Holy Communion) in memory of Christ’s last supper with his disciples.  This altar is used particularly for the major Christian festivals of Easter and Christmas.
