VE Day 75th Anniversary Service
VE Day Service Broadcast
Friday 8 May 2020, 12noon
On Friday 8 May it will be 75 years since we celebrated the formal acceptance by the Allies of World War II of Nazi Germany's unconditional surrender of its armed forces. While we cannot mark this occasion in the way many of us might have hoped, we are still able to come together virtually with our Bishop, and our city’s civic members, for a service of celebration, commemoration, and remembrance.
The service will be broadcast at midday on Friday, on Bristol Cathedral’s social media channels. It will be led by the Revd Canon Michael Johnson, Acting Dean of Bristol. The Rt Revd Vivienne Faull, Bishop of Bristol, will give an address. Councillor Jos Clark, Lord Mayor of Bristol, and Dr John Manley, High Sheriff of Bristol, will read the lessons. Peaches Golding, OBE, Lord-Lieutenant of Bristol, will lead the intercessions. There will be music provided by Bristol Cathedral Choir, recorded before the lockdown.
We hope that by coming together virtually, we can mark this occasion in the best way possible under these exceptional circumstances.
