The Revd Dr Kathryn Goldsmith appointed new Minor Canon for Worship & Liturgy

The Dean & Chapter are delighted to announce the appointment of The Revd Dr Kathryn Goldsmith as the new Minor Canon for Worship and Liturgy from September.

Prior to ordination Kathryn worked for the Bishoprics & Cathedrals department of the Church Commissioners, the Archbishops’ Senior Appointments office at Lambeth Palace, and more recently as a virger at Wells Cathedral.

Having trained for the priesthood at the College of the Resurrection in Mirfield, she was ordained in 2019 and served her title in the parishes of Chapelthorpe and Woolley with West Bretton in the Diocese of Leeds, before being seconded to Wakefield Cathedral for the final six months of her curacy.

Alongside her various posts she has studied for degrees in both theology and astrophysics; she holds a PhD in theoretical astrophysics and is currently studying for a second PhD in seventeenth-century notions of liturgy and sacred space.

She is passionate about using liturgy and music to engage with those on the margins of the Church and beyond, and about enabling people to encounter the living God through worship.

The Dean of Bristol, The Very Revd Dr Mandy Ford, writes:

“I’m delighted to be welcoming Kathryn to this role. She brings practical experience as a former Verger together with theological and liturgical expertise and creativity to enhance our worship. She was an outstanding candidate among a number of high-quality applicants and I am sure that we are going to enjoy having her on the team.”

Dr Goldsmith will be installed as Minor Canon during Choral Evensong at 3.30pm on Sunday 11 September.
