New Year’s Honours and the Cathedral

Two people connected with Bristol Cathedral were honoured in the Queen's New Year's Honours list.

Norman Sage was awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) for services to Bristol Cathedral and the community. Norman has been worshipping and volunteering at the Cathedral for four decades, giving tireless of his time as steward, Head Steward and, latterly, one of the team of cathedral gardeners who are awarded by Bristol in Bloom every year. Last year they achieved a Level 5 - Outstanding award in the It's Your Neighbourhood awards.

Our former Dean, the Very Revd Dr David Hoyle, was awarded an MBE for services to religion and charities in Bristol during his time as Dean of Bristol. Dr Hoyle is now Dean of Westminster, following his installation in Westminster Abbey in November 2019.

It is a privilege to be served by people such as these, and we offer them our heartfelt congratulations on being recognised for their significant contributions.
