“Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed.” Isaiah 1:17

God gives us a responsibility. It is a responsibility to care for those around us; not just in our own homes and church, but beyond to the wider world. Out of this responsibility, Bristol Cathedral and the Diocese of Bristol are exploring establishing a Social Justice Network.

A recent Church of England report highlighted social responsibility as being at the heart of the Gospel. There can be value in looking beyond the parish and making connections with others: to learn, to see the bigger picture, and to gain encouragement. This is the vision for the Social Justice Network - to see if we can be greater than the sum of our parts.

There are lots of possibilities in terms of how such a network might work. However, at the very least, we would expect any network to do three things: Educate through mutual learning and theological reflection; Encourage Christians to put their faith into action in new and exciting ways; Inform people of what’s going on in Bristol, Swindon and across the Diocese. Canon Martin Gainsborough, Bristol Cathedral
