Ben Silvey Appointed New Chief Operating Officer

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Ben Silvey as Chief Operating Officer & Chapter Clerk.

The role enables the smooth running of the Cathedral in all spheres of life: welcoming visitors, managing events and exhibitions, and our daily worship. Together with others Ben will help to care for this ancient and beautiful building, respecting the past while looking for ways in which Bristol Cathedral can be more accessible to a greater diversity of visitors.

The Dean said: “I am delighted to welcome Ben as our new Chief Operating Officer. He is well known to many in Bristol as a man of integrity and imagination, with a sincere Christian faith, and he will bring energy and creativity to this role.”

Ben is a proud Bristolian, born and bred, and has spent his career working with charities in the city, most recently leading YMCA Bristol.  In this role he has been responsible for developing new projects and social enterprises that benefit young people and the wider community, and leading a team to deliver them. Outside of work he loves spending time with his family (his wife Beth, and their three children, Elijah, Annabel and Felix) and can often be found up to his elbows in old plaster as he slowly but surely refurbishes their rather run down Victorian house!"

Ben said: “It is a privilege to be appointed to this role at Bristol Cathedral, supporting the brilliant team as they work hard preparing to re-open the doors and welcome people back in from across our fantastic and diverse city and region. I can't wait to get started!”

Ben will take up the post on Monday 24 May.
