Background

Bristol Cathedral Trust (BCT) was established in 1989 and, in every year of its existence, BCT has been able to provide financial support to the Chapter that has helped to sustain the fabric, music and educational provision at Bristol Cathedral.  This is made possible by the legacies, donations, grants and pledges of individuals, companies and grant-making bodies to BCT.  The Chairman of Bristol Cathedral Trust is Brigadier Hugh Pye OBE. BCT maintains an office that may be contacted by telephone 0117 946 8184 or by email fitzhardinge.society@bristol-cathedral.co.uk

Campaigns and Appeals

Two fund-raising campaigns have been set up at various times by BCT to advance particular projects of the Chapter and the Trust.  These are:

  • The Connect Appeal was set up under the late John Burke to raise funds for new buildings to improve visitor facilities and educational provision.  The Chapter still plans to bring these projects to fruition, but a changing financial situation has meant that income fundraising for fabric, music and education has currently had to take priority over capital projects.

  • The Fitzhardinge Society was established in 2006 to raise funds by subscription and other gifts for the conservation and maintenance of the Cathedral’s historic fabric.  The Society is named after Robert Fitzhardinge, the founder and original benefactor of the 12th century abbey which was re-founded as the Cathedral in 1542.  The Society is operated under the direction of the Chairman and Trustees of BCT, according to a strategy agreed between Trust and Chapter.

Subscription fees to the Society are £100 p.a. per Member, £150 for couples.  There is now a membership of approximately 300. Member benefits, over and above enabling the maintenance of the cathedral, include receipt of a bi-ennial newsletter, The Buttress (Winter/Summer) and the opportunity to participate in Society events.

Fitzhardinge Society Members are kept informed of wider cathedral developments and given priority in purchasing tickets for cathedral events and concerts that may benefit the Fitzhardinge Society, typically the High Sheriff’s Concert in June each year.

If you would like to join the Fitzhardinge  Society then please complete and return the membership form.

Leave a Legacy

Perhaps the most tax efficient way you could help support the Cathedral would be to leave a Legacy in your will.  If you would like to leave a legacy please write a letter stating your intention to:
